Elephant Respect

On our first game drive in the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana, we encountered these two male elephants wrapping their trunks together. The elephants approached each other.

And they got closer and closer and eventually wrapped their trunks around each other. Our guide said that the younger elephant was showing respect to the older one. The elephant on the right has longer tusks and is probably older.
