A Jug of Wine, A Loaf of Bread — And Thou

A recent lunch for two brings to mind a famous verse from The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám.

“A Book of Verses underneath the Bough,
A Jug of Wine, a Loaf of Bread—and Thou
Beside me singing in the Wilderness—
Oh, Wilderness were Paradise enow!”

A few of our favorite things: levain bread from Acme Bakery of Berkeley, red wine in a French, Picardie glass, fresh fruit of the season, and sardines.
