Robot on Patrol

One spring morning I was waiting for my wife at a local shopping center, when this big, white machine rolled by. Here’s a video. Later that morning I saw it rolling through another part of the shopping center.

Through an google search, I learned the machine’s a Knightscope K5 Autonomous Data Machine (ADM). This security robot stands 5′ tall and weighs 300 pounds. It patrols the shopping center, streams audio and video back to the control center, and recharges itself.

The shopping center is the Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, California. According to this article, the shopping center demoed the robot last year. Apparently they liked it. The shopping center and the robot developer both are in Silicon Valley, which eases business relationships.
